In a competitive design job market, it is in the best interest of graphic design students to develop a unique portfolio when their senior year approaches. Autodesk Maya is well known for its capacity to create photo-realistic 3D computer graphic images. Despite its widespread usage in engineering, architecture, and the entertainment industry, it is indeed a powerful tool that students can utilize to aesthetically enhance their graphic design presentations for the purpose of self-promotion. This paper introduces the potential value of 3D Autodesk Maya in promoting senior students’ design portfolio. It is also hoped that this cross-discipline study between 3D computer graphics and 2D graphic design may inspire design students to pursue their future creative career in a broader perspective.
